This is significant for a reason that extends beyond the 46 lakh students appearing for Class 12 board exams. CBSE is, in the Indian education context, a standard-setter. Its evaluation infrastructure decisions get watched by state boards, observed by the UGC, and eventually replicated — in modified form — across the system. When CBSE combines AI-assisted quality monitoring with digital On-Screen Marking at this scale, it is defining what modern examination quality assurance looks like.
For university administrators and examination controllers at colleges and universities affiliated to state boards, the question is no longer whether AI-assisted digital evaluation is coming to their system. It is how far behind they are willing to fall before they begin the transition.
